You may not recall the year the first TaxPack publication issued by the ATO – 1986. I recall it well. That year the number of tax return clients increased substantially. The reason for the increase was fear and uncertainty. For tax professionals the TaxPack represented a reliable referencing source – full of lovely explanations, definitions, cross-references, and numerous tax rates, tables and calculation boxes. For working Australians it struck fear into their very core.
Until recently, the TaxPack has served tax professionals well, if not working Australians. However, if you picked up a TaxPack publication from 2009 onwards you will discover that many (nearly ALL) the tax rates, tables and calculators have disappeared. Why? It seems the ATO is driving working Australian’s (you guys) online by making available a myriad of the same – not necessarily user friendly either (providing you can find the right one).
Here you will find a selection of common online calculators that are easy to locate and, hopefully, understand.
